BDC
Much work lately has been with the BDC (Broadband Data Collection) from the FCC. There is a large amount of information available that has been submitted by the service providers, both fixed and mobile. The FCC has a good web site, but there is simply so much information that it can be difficult to find answers to all your questions.
RFAnalytic has been creating custom designed geospatial tools along with large scale parallel processing to refine the data to answer questions.
This is useful for network operators wanting to monitor the most recent network developments, in addition to verifying what information they provide to the public. The 5G fund is moving forward, based on the BDC map.
Public entities involved with grant and other funding processes, such as BEAD, find value with public accountability of the funds used.
Third party objectivity, explained expertly.
Network Data + Machine Learning = AI
Modern telecommunication networks provide an enormous amount of information regarding equipment health and welfare. An underutilized segment is the great volume of information reporting network activity related to customer use patterns. Customers tell you quite a bit “in the metrics” - without any surveys or focus groups. RFAnalytic has developed custom tools that use network performance data to guide network planning and cost optimization of both capital and operational expenditures. A modern strategic way to use your network data.
Fixed Wireless
Fixed wireless networks are quite different than mobility networks - and that is great for planning! Traditional methods to plan mobility networks have been used to plan and deploy fixed networks. Better solutions exist. RFAnalytic has created custom solutions using large volumes of open source data to aid deployments with more certainty. High resolution terrain, and surface clutter from Lidar allow a more capital efficient deployment, crafted to suit operator needs. This is independent of technology used. These tools greatly assist business decisions prior to capital expenditures for more profitable deployments. Customers receive the information in web format, deployed on their own network for security and confidentiality. Learning new software is not required. This information is easily shared among employees authorized by their executive and IT staff, increasing collaboration.
Custom Work
RFAnalytic performs custom work upon request and customer review. The R programming environment is often used.
- Strengths:
- Creation and manipulation of large data sets
- High quality visualization outputs
- Proficient with geospatial manipulations - aids GIS work
- Variety of output formats - Word, PDF, Web
- Custom thematic maps difficult to create with GIS systems
There are many large open source data repositories that aid in finding answers to questions.
Some data sources (but not limited to) are:
- FCC
- Mobile coverage plots, 4G, 5G
- Fixed network deployment density
- USGS data for terrain and ground clutter (Lidar)
- US Census
- Populations
- Summary data by state, county, tract, block group and census block
- Categorical data - very diverse
- Tiger shape files
- Roads and highways
- Shapes to plot of Census boundaries
- Non-traditional shapes such as school districts and voting districts
